Auditions
Gimble A Cappella hosts auditions at the beginning of fall and occasionally winter semesters. We welcome anyone that's interested in joining the Gimble family!

What To Expect:

Vocal Range
We'll start by asking you to sing ascending and descending scales to get a sense of your vocal range.

Tonal Memory
Next, we'll test your tonal memory by playing a series of notes and have you repeat the pattern back to us.

Sight Reading
We'll hand you a short bar of music to sight read. You can sing it on any syllable you wish.

Solo
Finally, show us what you've got by singing us a short solo (a verse and a chorus) that best highlights your voice!
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What if I have no musical background?
No worries! We still encourage you to audition and give it your best shot. We want to hear your unique voice and don't expect perfection.
2. What if I don't know how to sight read?
Trust me, every Gimble member remembers how daunting the sight reading portion of auditions were. Again, we're not looking for the ability to read music perfectly. This portion helps us understand where you're at so we can provide the best guidance for you.
3. What type of song should I sing for my solo?
Try to pick a song that best highlights your vocal range and style. It can be from any genre but we ask that you avoid musical theatre or classical choral music.
4. Can I re-audition?
Of course! In fact, some Gimble members have auditioned multiple times. There is no penalty for re-auditioning for the group.
5. What if I can't make it to any of the audition times?
If none of the audition times work for you, please contact us with more details and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
